Australian greyhound exports

Currently there is no law that prohibits the export of greyhounds overseas, including to countries where greyhound racing is banned.

Australian greyhounds are currently being used for racing and breeding all over the world, including in an illegal greyhound racing ring in China, after being exported undesexed, against the industries own rules.

Recently the ABC and Free the Hounds unearthed more evidence and footage of greyhounds being treated cruelly and used as commodities.

Once finished racing in Australia, and unwanted by their owner, they are sold and shipped offshore, completely unmonitored.

This is not how Australians should be treating our greyhounds, or any breed of dog.

Volunteers from greyhound advocacy group Free the Hounds work tirelessly to try and rescue Australian greyhounds and bring them home.

Greyhounds are companions - not commodities.
